The National Cherry Blossom
Festival annually commemorates the 1912 gift
to the city of Washington of 3,000 cherry
trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to
enhance the growing friendship between the
United States and Japan and celebrate the
continued close relationship between our two
people.
Day 1 Washington, DC was found in
1791 as the world’s first planned national
capital. We will take a guided tour of the
capital and visit the Jefferson, Roosevelt &
Lincoln Memorials, Tidal Basin, Korean War
Veterans Memorials, Vietnam Veterans
Memorial, World War II Memorial, and more.
If time permits, we will stop at the Capitol
Hill and the White House (outside) and take
pictures. Dinner is included at a local
restaurant. Later we will check into our
hotel. D
Day 2
After breakfast we
will be head towards the National Geographic
Museum. Now, you can stand face-to-face with
these Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians
of China’s First Emperor, an
exhibition featuring treasures from the tomb
complex including 15 life-size figures,
weapons, armor, coins, and more. Their
discovery outside the city of Xi'an in 1974
is one of the greatest archaeological finds
of the 20th century. Don't miss this chance
to see the largest collection of significant
artifacts from China ever to travel to the
United States. Later we will visit the
National Museum of American History. The
Museum collects and preserves more than 3
million artifacts—all true national
treasures. The exhibitions explore major
themes in American history and culture, from
the War of Independence to the present day.
There will be free time for you to visit
other Smithsonian Museums in the National
Mall. B
